Mortgages
Not all mortgages are the same. In fact, there are out there varieties of mortgages that may or may not suit your circumstances. So the first thing you have to think about is the different types of mortgages on the market. Not all are widely available, but it is good to decide what would suit you best, as well as what might not.
Depending on age, whether you are a first time buyer or somebody trading up to a larger house, for example, you will need to assess what is best for you. To do this, get the advice of an independent Qualified Financial Adviser (QFA) or your accountant if you are self-employed. Many mortgage brokers or intermediaries are tied agents and therefore push you into the products of the institutions they represent. This may not be in your best interests. The fee to pay an independent QFA or accountant is well justified when you consider the cost and inconvenience of trying to extract yourself from an unsuitable mortgage a few years down the line.
